Grota lui Hili – Cheile Turzii – Via Ferrata

Cheile Turzii, it has to be one of my favorite place to go with my family for a quick walk, hiking, camping…, beside being my favorite place, today it’s also my first via ferrata experience.

I am with my good friend Mihai, a couple from Germany that we met on the way and the funniest via ferrata guide…Cornel. This is a 350m via ferrata trail with a 200 mt altitude. The trail is called Grota Hilli due to the spectacular opening in the cliff around the end of the trail. I

t takes about 50 min to go up and about another 50 min to get down. It has a moderate difficulty, so if you have done via ferrata before it shouldn’t cause you any problems, otherwise I do recommend going with a guide. In either cases, do check with the local Rescue team if the steel cables are in place, to be totally safe.

Walking through Cheile Turzii | Turda Gorge – Romania

Turda gorge is a natural reservoir in Turda, Cluj County. The canyon, formed through the erosion of the Jurassic limestone of the mountain, is 3km long and the walls have heights reaching 300 m. It is loved by climbers who can chose from over 300 climbing trails, but also by people who want to break out into the nature.

You can easily walk through the gorge following the red circle trail. It has quite a few cool bridges, epic sceneries and caves on the way. It takes more or less about 50 min to cross it from one side to the other.

Cheile Turzii contains one of the richest and most scenic karst landscapes in Romania. More than 1000 plants and animal species live here. Once you crossed the canyon you can continue your journey up to the cliff and back to the other side which will take you another 2h-3h to complete.
